Privacy notice
Version 2026-10-v2.
Who is responsible
The archive is run by Antti Laakso as a private person (the data controller). Contact: hello@notesonconnection.org.
What we collect
- Your answers in the share form. We do not ask for your name.
- Your email address, only if you agree to be contacted. It is stored separately from your experience and never published.
- We do not store your IP address with your contribution. Spam protection (Cloudflare Turnstile) and cookie-free visitor statistics (Cloudflare Web Analytics) process technical data under Cloudflare's terms. The site sets no tracking cookies.
Why, and on what basis
To run a public archive of experiences and to analyse recurring patterns in it. The legal basis is your consent (GDPR article 6(1)(a)). If your account mentions things such as religion, health or political views, we process them on the basis of the explicit consent you give in a separate checkbox in the form (article 9(2)(a)) and remove them from anything published where they could identify someone.
Your contribution is used in research — including academic theses and articles — only if you give that separate permission. Quotes in research are always anonymised. If the material is used in a specific study, a notice describing that study will be published on this site before it starts.
Before publication
A person reads every contribution. We remove names, exact places and other identifying details — both yours and those of anyone else you describe — and record what was changed. Nothing is published if you chose not to have it published.
Where it is stored, and for how long
The site and database are hosted by Cloudflare, Inc., which processes the data on our behalf under its data processing agreement. The database is restricted to the European Union. Cloudflare is certified under the EU–US Data Privacy Framework.
Original answers and email addresses are kept for at most 10 years from when you sent them, or until you ask us to delete them, whichever comes first. Published notes stay public unless you ask for them to be withdrawn.
Your rights
You can ask to see, correct or delete your contribution, or withdraw any permission, by emailing us with the note number (e.g. NC-0042) or the date and country of your contribution. If you withdraw research permission after anonymised data has already been used in a completed study, that study cannot be changed, but your contribution will not be used in new work. You can complain to the Office of the Data Protection Ombudsman in Finland.
If you live somewhere sensitive
You can hide your country. Locations are never shown more precisely than region. Please do not include anything that could put you or others at risk — if in doubt, leave it out or tell us in your answer and we will hold it back.
